Conscious Consumerism - State of Play in UAE
Updated: Nov 4, 2018
We are excited to announce the launch of our groundbreaking consumer insight research programme. The research will explore the extent to which UAE consumers are making responsible and sustainable purchasing decisions and, in effect, acting as Conscious Consumers.
Our ambition is to establish an on-going programme that regularly tracks how consumption patterns and priorities in UAE reflect the shift towards more responsible consumption witnessed in many other markets globally. By establishing a benchmark of consumer attitudes and behaviours, we wish to enable all societal players – consumers, business and the public sector – to make informed choices about how best to affect change in support of the UAE's National Agenda and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The key elements of our programme are:
A first of its kind, UAE-wide consumer insight survey exploring responsible consumption.
An extensive stakeholder outreach programme to share insights emerging from the survey; shared freely with the public and participating organisations.
An initiative to build an 'insight to action' community, enabling all key stakeholders to share and discover information, showcase existing sustainability-aligned initiatives and case studies in UAE, and to participate in collaborative efforts to find innovative solutions.
In recognition of SDG 17: Partnering for SDGs, this programme has been designed to be a collaborative effort by public, private, academic and NGO partners and contributors. There are a number of ways to get involved, and we would be delighted to have the opportunity to talk through these options with anyone interesting in partnering with us.
The consumer insight survey is expected to go live in January 2019. In the run-up to the survey, we will organise a series of ‘discovery cafes’ to enable qualitative exploration of the key topics of research and inform the survey design. A pilot café was held on 24 September, and the first, free-to-attend public discovery café will be held on 10 October. We will post registration details here and on our social media channels on 7 October.
